About Erika List
In October, I will be joining 14 other amazing kidney donors from around the United States on an inspiring hike through the beautiful Grand Canyon. Due to the recent, devastating wildfires at the North Rim, we have had to make some adjustments to our original trek, which was to tackle the 21 mile hike from South to North Rim in one incredible day. Rather than give up on our mission, we have tweaked our hike to travel from South Rim (South Kaibab Trail) to River (Phantom Ranch) up Bright Angel/South Rim (still 21 miles and almost 6,000ft elevation) to demonstrate the strength and resilience of kidney donors as well as to raise awareness of the importance of organ donation. Nationally there are over 100,000 men, women and children in need of an organ transplant, and almost 90,000 of them are in need of a kidney.
I only recently joined this amazing group (KDA) last November when I donated my kidney, Lefty, in order for my Dad to get his very needed kidney transplant as soon as possible. Our R2R climb will be less than 12 months since I donated! I feel so privileged to have been selected to join this group on this journey as an advocate for live kidney donation and being able to maintain an active, healthy life with only 1 bean!
